Collaborators: Americas Program

The Americas program is a program that was co-funded by the NSF. It leverages ongoing activities by the USAMI, especially in the area of affordable building materials and biomaterials. The objective is to bring five scientists per year from Latin America (Brazil, Argentina, and Columbia) and the Caribbean (Guadeloupe and Trinidad) to the U.S. to engage in materials and education activities. So far, the program has supported the visits of scientists form the University of Sao Paulo in Pirassununga, (Prof. Holmer Savastano); PUC-Rio, (Prof. Khosrow Ghavami); the University of Sao Paulo, (Prof. Emelio da Silva); and the University of the Antilles de la Guyane, (Prof. Marie-Ange Arsene).

The Americas fellowships are managed by the USAMI structure. They support fellowships of up to 5 years for materials researchers and educators with an interest in the structure and properties of iinfrastructure and biological/biomimmetic/bioinspired materials.
