Laboratories:

Our thermomechanical/tribological testing suite includes: an Instron servo-hydraulic testing machine; an MTS servo-hydraulic testing machine; an automated pin-on-disk wear tester, and a Questar telescope for in-situ imaging.

Instron Test Station
This table top Instron is used for studies of mechanical behavior at intermediate scales. Current efforts include studies of contact damage and crack growth in cellular biomaterials, thermostructural materials, and infrastructure materials. The system includes in-situ crack growth monitoring and acoustic emissions capabilities.
MTS Test Station
This MTS testing stations is used for larger-scale mechanical testing of materials. The system includes software for crack growth testing with direct current potential drop (d.c.p.d.) and compliance techniques. It is used in studies of thermostructural materials and cellular materials.
Pin-on-disk Wear Tester
This is Pin-on-disk Wear Tester. It is being used in studies of wear phenomena in biomaterials, nanostructured materials, and amorphous materials. The automated system is being used to study friction and wear between nanostructured C0-Cr and cross-linked polyethylene and wear in novel materials.
