Resources: Fellowship Information

USAMI fellowships support U.S. visits for African scientists and African visits for U.S. scientists and students. They are awarded on a competitive basis. The objective is to remain open to U.S. and African scientists that have the potential to contribute to the USAMI mission.

The fellowships for U.S. visits typically support nine week visits for scientists that are working in one of the areas of focus of the IMI. However in selected cases, visits of four or six months may be supported for highly qualified individuals. These visits are intended for scientists that are already doing some research in their home country. Hence, the intent is to use the facilities and mentorship in the U.S. to do things that cannot be done at the home institutions. The scientist the return to Africa, and may visit a few more times until a body of work is completed and published.

Also U.S. Scientists and students are awarded USAMI fellowships on a competitive basis. The fellowships may support research and/or educational activities in the U.S., Africa, and the Americas. The Visiting Fellowships may support travel to conferences/workshops, visits to collaborators, educational/outreach visits, and research visits. Awards are made to senior researchers and educators, post-doctoral researchers, graduate students, undergraduate students, and junior/senior high school students. The undergraduate and junior/senior high school fellowships are typically for summer research.
