Resources: Student Research Opportunities
Each summer, USAMI supports between 4 and 8 undergraduates to do research with USAMI faculty in any of the focus areas of USAMI. These include nanomaterials, biomaterials, materials for affordable housing and biomaterials. Successful applicants are given fellowships to work for 8 weeks with a graduate mentor and a faculty advisor. The students are required to present their work and prepare a poster at the end of the program.
In addition to the summer research programs in the U.S., USAMI fellowships are also available to support U.S. students that want to go to Africa to do research, technology transfer and educational activities. The fellowships are awarded to undergraduate/graduate students and post-doctoral fellows that want to spend between 4 weeks and a year working in Africa. The fellowships cover airfare and living expenses in Africa. Each successful applicant is given USAMI faculty mentors in Africa and in the U.S.
